How do you make sure that no one outworks you? That the guy who is shooting jumpers with you in practice will not take your spot on the court. How do you make sure that you even gonna play the next game? One thing you can do is to stay paranoid at all times. Never get comfortable with what you have or what you have done. Cause when you get comfortable, the other dude whose hunger for success is bigger, will take whats yours.
This is what Isaiah Thomas is doing. He stays paranoid.
The story he tells in the following clip is really inspirational so listen up.
“Until this day, every practice and every game I´m paranoid like.. damn I might not start tomorrow. I gotta go this much more harder than the next dude. I´m 5´9, I´m not supposed to be in the NBA. Since I was a little boy, I told myself that I´m gonna make it, no matter what. No matter who it was, no matter who told me..if the commissioner told me I was not gonna get drafted..I was like, I´m gonna be in that league. I´m always paranoid, I´m never satisfied with what I got. I got two kids and they gotta eat somehow. So every day I go to the practice or games I play against Chris Paul, Kobe and i´m like ..they eating real good right now. I´m not really eating so I gotta step it up. Stay paranoid and never get comfortable, cause once that day you get comfortable, this is over.”
